I recently bought a Formula 45 brokered by Ed Fairbanks. I traveled from Green Bay, WI to Old Saybrook, CT to look at several Formula’s. Ed was very accommodating to work with my broker from Chicago and met me to show the boat, spending 1-2 hours onboard. It was clear he was very knowledgeable and had a lot of Formula experience. He took his time and let us ask many questions. Even though this was the lowest priced Formula we looked at on the trip, it was in the nicest shape on first inspection and Ed represented it well online. We made an offer and had short counter before settling on a price. Ed helped arrange a captain and gave several surveyor and mechanic recommendations. We called several more and set up the survey. I returned to CT with my broker and met Ed and the surveyors. There was no question the boat was in great shape and passed with a good survey. The short list of discrepancies was readily accepted by the seller and they covered all of it, even a few things that were delayed. We did not delay the closing, but closed and they sent the parts to my local service center or to me after the boat was delivered. Once we closed, Ed really was helpful at identifying a shipyard/marina that had Formula experience to haul and prep the boat for shipping. His experience and connections enabled this to be as economical as possible. The boat arrived a week later in Michigan and was re-assembled and we crossed Lake Michigan to get it home. Ed has been very helpful in contact with everyone on this end to make sure the boat arrived safely to Wisconsin. He made himself available for follow up questions and has been great to work with. If you want to buy a Formula Ed is your guy in the Long Island Sound. He is an expert on the boats and can help in many ways beyond a sale. I just completed the 4th transaction with Ed Fairbanks and Fairbanks Yacht Group. Ed acted as the buyers broker on two boats and the selling broker representing me for the sale of two boats. This most recent deal had a series of challenges brought on by the buyers documentation company.
